Do you accept onto your books everyone who applies?
 |
We receive over 400 new applications a week. From these we usually return approximately 75% as unsuitable for our purposes. Out of the rest of whom we interview, we will only take onto our books children and teenagers who fit our standards for successful models. Or at the very least show a strong potential to be so. Scallywags is committed to equal opportunities for all performers, irrespective of race, colour, creed, ethnic / national origins or disability.

How can I tell if I am joining a good and reputable Agency?
The length of time an Agency has been established is usually an indication of their reliability. Obviously you would expect a better track record from an Agency which has been successfuly placing models in jobs for years compared to an Agency which may have only been in operation for a few months to a couple of years. Why not do some research - call companies such as Freemans & Littlewoods Catalogue, Mothercare or Ladybird, Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency, The Bill etc When you visit the agency for an assessment take note of your surroundings. Are the telephones ringing? Is there evidence of work lying around? Scallywags Agency is a sole agent.

On joining Scallywags can you guarantee my child work?
No Model Agency can absolutely guarantee you work, if they do look for the nearest exit! Once your child's photograph is circulating it is ultimately up to our clients who they choose for each job. What we do guarantee is the fact that we only take onto our books babies, children and teenagers we feel we can successfully place in jobs. After all not only does our reputation rest on this fact but remember, when you are out working, so are we. It would be totally non productive to fill our books with models who have no chance of working.

Can you tell me how many jobs I can expect in a year?
This is an impossible question to answer as each model's work rate is reliant on many different factors. Some models "hit it off" quicker than others and seem to secure every job for which they are auditioned . Others take a little longer to warm up and yet once they do there is sometimes no stopping them. A great deal depends on which look and what age group the client requires for the job. But always remember some of our biggest "stars" are just normal kids having fun and enjoying themselves.

|
How will I know when a client is interested in me?
|
The agency will contact you by telephone to provide you with the details of your booking. Please note, that the agency will contact you only when we have a definite booking for you. The agency is simply too busy to contact models if a client has only expressed an interest in the model or if the agency is in the negotiation stage of the booking.

Is there a fee to be represented by your agency?
No. We do not charge fees for representation. We earn the standard 25%/37.5% agency commission on work models perform through our agency. While there are no fees to be represented by our agency, models are required to cover their own expenses such as folio and website fees.

Do you charge an assessment or interview fee?
No. We do not charge a fee for assessments, interviews or consultations.

How much does it cost?
The price is £175 for babies and children. This includes a page on our fully searchable website database featuring two different photos per model.

I have my own website, can't you just tell clients to see me there?
No. If you are a model with our agency you have to have your photos on our site. It would be extremely unprofessional of our agency, and time-consuming for our clients, to be directed to dozens of individual websites to find the right model for the job. In addition, our agency must maintain control over the quality of photos and the manner in which our models our represented. By allowing models to use individual websites, we would be unable to maintain quality control. Clients want to book models quickly from an established and professional agency. Our website is accessed 24 hours a day by advertising agencies, magazine editors, photographers, stylists, clothing manufacturers and casting directors.

I'm always hearing that you should not pay an agency to go onto their books.
Often people hear that you should not pay to go onto an Agency from Adult models and Adult Agencies whose running operation is completely different from the Children's scene. Adults are regularly sent on go sees - in other words they hawk themselves around town to introduce themselves to photographers and magazine editors at their own expense. They have to be on the scene and be seen constantly. Children's agents on the other hand organise set auditions and pay an audition fee each time. Clients will also be less inclined to work with an Agency who does not supply a high quality, well presented website containing photographs of their Models. They too like to see the Models they are choosing for jobs and what they are paying for.
 |

Who will take the photographs for my folio?
For inclusion in the website we insist that the standard of photography is exceptionally high. In most cases this excludes photographs taken by friends, relatives or neighbours! We offer an 'in house' folio service to provide a constant high quality and standardized layout.

How long has Scallywags been established?
Scallywags started as a family run business which began trading in 1984. Over the years the Agency has grown to be one of the most well known and popular Agencies for children, teenagers and families in the UK. Their reputation for commitment to detail and friendly yet professional manner is well known in the media business.
